Nitrous Oxide (N2O), is commonly known to many as "laughing gas." It is one of the safest and most common forms of sedation used in dentistry. Nitrous oxide is a gas that you breathe through a mask you wear on your nose throughout the procedure. Within minutes, you may experience a euphoric and relaxed state.
With this type of sedation, the onset and offset are rapid, and you are back to normal soon after the mask is removed. You will be able to drive home safely thereafter. Depth of sedation can vary depending on your level of anxiety.
Nitrous oxide sedation can also be used to reduce salivary flow and gag reflexes. It is also a good option when treating children. Please consult with our dentist regarding this method of sedation.
